WE is supporting poor rural women starting businesses in Honduras.
Maria Isabel Perez has only a few dollars to repay on her fourth Adelante loan.
A Store is Set to Pass from Mother to Daughter
Maria Isabel Perez, 63, is proud of her nine children and 45 grandchildren, many of whom live in her neighborhood. Maria has lived without her husband for 18 years, and shares her home with a son, a granddaughter and three grandsons.
With loans from Adelante and the shared wisdom of her Adelante Asamblea (loan group), Maria has established in her home a small shop that offers life's general necessities (sugar, soap, salt and corn) for sale to her neighbors. With four loans from Adelante, and only a few dollars yet to be repaid, Maria has been able to increase the inventory of her shop and sell a wider range of products.
Some of Maria's business efforts have been side-lined due to poor health, but thanks to the Adelante loans, she has been able to make enough money to afford her visits to the health center. Moreover, she hopes her daughter will take over her shop, and continue working with Adelante.
